Hiring Manager: I grow tired of this applicant we interviewed two weeks ago. He is calling and asking us questions about when we will make our choice. Will he not learn? I think we should continue ignoring him and not even tell him if he was not picked. That would be expected. People do not want to hear from us right? So we will not even respond. Boy we are gonna save millions by not bothering to respond to applicants as well as the ones we actually interview.

Everyone else in the room: Excellent idea sir! We will be RICH!

And the letter reads:

Dear (my name here, duh),

Thank you for your interest in careers with The Gallup Organization. We appreciate the time you spent completing our application process, and we recognize your considerable talents and achievements.

At the core of Gallup's selection philosophy is a commitment to finding the right individual for each specific opportunity. We keep this commitment by creating the best possible match between a person's strengths -- his or her greatest talents, skills, and knowledge -- and the company's needs. We believe this approach provides individuals with the greatest opportunities for professional growth and personal satisfaction.

The position for which you applied requires experience, education, or other assets that your background does not reflect. For that reason, we will not be able to further pursue your candidacy at this time. Your confidential application information will remain in our candidate system's talent bank. We will contact you if the requirements for this position are altered or if an appropriate opportunity arises.

Again, thank you for your time and your application.

Wishing you the best in your endeavors,

(name of guy I never talked to)
